What is really worrying is that Kerala society was (or at least appeared to be) moving away from superstitions in the early part of the last century but is now travelling in the opposite direction. I think we have to look into the reasons for the change in direction and tackle them.BHASKARhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15358610336955926132noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20119036.post-74829725574179548452007-07-06T13:21:00.000+05:302007-07-06T13:21:00.000+05:30I agree with BRP that superstitions etc have gone ...I agree with BRP that superstitions etc have gone up, in spite of the significant work done by the social movements.
Then I wonder how worse the situation might have been if these were not there!
In fact, in several respects, the scientific outlook here is much better than what prevails in the advanced countries, for examokle the USA.
RVGRVGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11331188533811350236noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20119036.post-64993618381047509502007-07-03T12:51:00.000+05:302007-07-03T12:51:00.000+05:30Dear SirThis is where media can play a different r...Dear Sir
This is where media can play a different role. I do not see anything positive getting reported in our media. The world is not that bad. Still there are good people doing good work which doesnt get any media attention. I know a lot of good teachers and good doctors who ultimately get demoralised due to the flood of negative reporting. I think that we shold also try to identify and strengthen some such movements and people and that is the only way to ensure that the negative currents do not get the upper hand.
love
sajansajanghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18272285380665906324noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20119036.post-80923485762324645802007-07-02T14:17:00.000+05:302007-07-02T14:17:00.000+05:30Sajan, I do not underrate the contribution of soci...Sajan, I do not underrate the contribution of social movements. What bothers me is that other forces are able to negate the results of their endeavour. Why does it happen? How does it happen? A few years ago I was at a meeting where a KSSP activist gave a detailed account of the group's campaigns against superstition. Obviously it had done good work. But, then, superstition instead of going down, went up. That points to a problem we have to address. The most hopeful feature of the current Kerala scenario is that we still have social movements that are doing good work. How do we make sure that they succeed, and not those on the opposite side?BHASKARhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15358610336955926132noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20119036.post-2094609415745295292007-07-01T17:10:00.000+05:302007-07-01T17:10:00.000+05:30Sir I think that the jump from 57 to Vs has been u...Sir I think that the jump from 57 to Vs has been unrealistic and without considering the mass movements that have come up. I have always thought that the strength of our society has been its social movements. I was a part of it when KSSP initiated the Grama sasthra jathas in 1982 and also for the literacy movement in 1991. This was followed by the people's plan which I consider to be of paramount importance in our social transformations. What is appealing to me in these movements is not just the physical or statistical achievemnets but the way in which people can be brought together for a common cause. it will be a tragedy if we miss this point while trying to understand our society.
love
Sajansajanghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18272285380665906324noreply@blogger.com
